The Prophet Elias Chapel is situated in the village of Pissouri, in the Limassol district. More specifically the chapel is located about 2, 5 kilometres west of the village. Originally the chapel was carved into a rock at the peak of the hill where the village is built. The shape of the carved church was quite unusual, however all the walls and the roof were covered with important murals. The murals were preserved until 80 years ago. In the meantime, the cave collapsed resulting in the destruction of the murals.
Today only parts of the murals are saved on the south wall on the cave. After the collapse a one ailed chapel was built on top of the cave. The chapel was built in 1960 with donations from Mr.Agamemonas Ar. Fouta. The chapel was inaugurated on the 20th of July 2000 and was then renovated in 2002. Prophet Elias is celebrated on Easter Monday and on the 20th of July.
