The Evretou Dam is located about 8 kilometres from Polis Chrysochous and 31 kilometres from Paphos with access from Tremithousa village. It was built in 1986 at the Stavro of Psokas River.

It is at an altitude of about 200 metres and has a capacity of 24 million cubical metres. The Scarfou Bridge is located very close near the same river. It is the third largest damn in Cyprus and it is also the largest rock filled dam on the island.  It is about 200 metres high and can contain 24 million cubic metres of water. It is part of the Chrysochou Irrigation Project and its construction was a total of CYP £21,000,000.

The abandoned Turkish Cypriot village of Evretou is located near the north bank at a location high above the lake. The lake has some very good opportunities for birdwatching. The fish in the lake include carps, roaches, seabass, catfish, lobster and trout.
