Athalassa Lake is located at the Agios Georgios Park in the Nicosia district, which is part of the national Forest Park of Athalassa.
It possibly got its name from the fact that during antiquity it was under the sea (as was the largest part of Cyprus) but there are also other versions.
The Athalassa Lake stands out due to the fact that the surrounding park accommodates many types of animals such as birds, bats, ducks, fish, turtles, reptiles, cats, rabbits, foxes as well as different types of vegetation.
Lastly, the park has bike paths, paths for walking, a children’s playground and picnic areas.
