The Limassol Wine Festival is organised every year during the  beginning of September from 7 until 12 every night.

During the celebration visitors have the opportunity to taste some of Cyprus’ finest wines. There are also traditional dances and songs by various dancing groups and choirs from Cyprus as well as abroad.

The celebration takes place at the Limassol Municipal Gardens which are located at the east side of the town near the sea. Tickets are sold at any of the three entrances. Once you go in from the main entrance which is the one towards the south, one can see the giant figure of a Cypriot winegrower wearing the traditional outfit. The Vrakas is the emblem of the Wine Festival and has been since 1961.

At both sides of the main entrance there are kiosks that belong to the various wine industries in Limassol, ETKO, KEO, LOEL, SODAP and ALONA where visitors can try all types of wine.

Every night thousands of visitors go to the Wine Festival to enjoy the carefree and happy atmosphere that the wine, the mezedes, the traditional dances and songs as well as the comedies which the festival has to offer.

A night at the Wine Festival is a chance to live the Greek tradition of the Dionysia celebrations, where all the residents of the Attica area sat at common feasts and tasted new wine, took part in dancing, singing poetry and theatrical plays. During these celebrations in ancient Greece, a number of slaves were set free, while the ones who remained were allowed to live freely and have fun for a short period of time.
