In the vibrant heart of Ayia Napa, a town known for its lively atmosphere, stands the Church of Panagia, a serene oasis of history and spirituality. This medieval monastery, built around 1500 AD, is an architectural marvel that transports visitors back to a time of knights and legends. Its structure, reminiscent of a medieval castle, is a unique blend of history and mystique in a modern tourist hub.

Partially underground and carved into rock, it's surrounded by high walls, echoing the area's wooded past. This feature not only highlights the ingenuity of its builders but also signifies its harmony with the natural environment. The high walls that encircle the church compound add a sense of seclusion and tranquility, making it a perfect retreat for reflection and prayer.

Throughout the 20th century, the monastery underwent significant restorations, transforming into an ecumenical conference center. This new role has positioned it as a beacon of religious dialogue and peace, serving churches from Cyprus and the broader Middle East. The administrative oversight by the Holy Metropolis Constantia Ammochostos since 2007 further cements its position as a spiritual landmark.T

One of the monastery's most enchanting features is the ancient sycamore tree at its south gate. Believed to be over 600 years old, this tree is a living witness to centuries of history, standing as a silent guardian of the monastery and its legacy. A New Chapter In 1994, the addition of a new church within the monastery complex, also dedicated to the Virgin Mary, marked a new chapter in its long history. This newer structure complements the ancient monastery, offering a contemporary space for worship and community gatherings
